Tips and Best Practices
Get the most out of Flyga’s transfer tracking with these tips.
Use the Optimizer Before You Transfer
Section titled “Use the Optimizer Before You Transfer”Before initiating a transfer with your loyalty program, run it through the Transfer Optimizer first. You might discover a better transfer option you didn’t know existed, or confirm that the direct transfer is indeed the best option. For a deeper look at optimization strategy, see Why Optimize Transfers.
Track Settlement Speed Accurately
Section titled “Track Settlement Speed Accurately”When logging a transfer, set the settlement speed to reflect how long the transfer actually took (or select “Pending” if it hasn’t arrived yet). This data helps you plan future transfers — if that transfer typically takes 2-3 days, you’ll know to initiate it well before you need the points.
Common settlement times:
- Instant — Points appear immediately (common with bank-to-airline 1:1 transfers)
- A few hours — Points arrive within the same day
- 1-3 days — Most standard transfers
- 3-7 days — Slower transfers, often hotel-to-airline
- 2+ weeks — Rare, but some programs are notoriously slow
Watch for Bonuses
Section titled “Watch for Bonuses”When you select a transfer that has an active bonus promotion, Flyga detects it and shows the bonus percentage. Logging the bonus with your transfer ensures your dashboard valuations are accurate.
Log Transfers Promptly
Section titled “Log Transfers Promptly”Log your transfers as soon as you initiate them. This way:
- You won’t forget the exact points amounts
- Pending transfers appear in your dashboard as reminders
- Settlement time tracking is more accurate
Understand the Net Change
Section titled “Understand the Net Change”The Net Change stat on your dashboard tells you the overall value impact of your transfers:
- Green (positive) — Your destination points are worth more than what you sent. This is good — you’re creating value through your transfers.
- Red (negative) — You lost value in the transfer. This can happen with unfavorable ratios (like 3:1 hotel-to-airline transfers). Sometimes this is still worthwhile if you’re redeeming for a high-value award.
- Gray (neutral) — The value is roughly the same before and after transfer.
When Multi-Hop Makes Sense
Section titled “When Multi-Hop Makes Sense”Most of the time, a direct single-hop transfer is the best option. Multi-hop transfers are useful when:
- There’s no direct transfer between your source and destination programs
- An intermediate program has an active bonus that makes the detour worthwhile
- You already have points in an intermediate program and want to consolidate
The Transfer Optimizer shows you all available transfer options, so you can compare and decide. For more detailed decision frameworks, see Strategies for Common Scenarios.
Keep Notes
Section titled “Keep Notes”Use the Notes field when logging transfers to record context like:
- “For Paris CDG-JFK award ticket on Oct 15”
- “Taking advantage of 25% bonus promotion”
- “Consolidating hotel points before they expire”
These notes make it easy to remember why you made each transfer when reviewing your history later.
Ask from chat
Section titled “Ask from chat”Once you know how a transfer should look, you can log the next one from Cursor or Claude: “Log 60,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards to Virgin Atlantic today.” Setup: Flyga MCP.
Track Your Redemption Value
Section titled “Track Your Redemption Value”Transfers are a means to an end — the real payoff is the redemption. After you transfer points and book an award, log the redemption to see your actual cents-per-point. Over time, comparing your transfer costs to your redemption values reveals which programs consistently deliver the best return. See Putting It All Together for a full walkthrough of the transfer-to-redemption cycle.
